This was a custom exterior wood identity sign created for The Root midwives group in San Francisco's Noe Valley neighborhood. The sign was created from a solid redwood slab, jointed and planed, then carved on both sides using a CNC router. The inset logo and lettering was first carved on the CNC then burned black using a stencil and a torch. The sign was then sanded and several layers of marine varnish applied. It has withstood the elements outdoors for the past 7 years.
